Introduction
The Weissenstein school complex welcomes a new addition in the form of a schoolhouse and double sports hall, enhancing the ensemble while providing essential facilities for both educational and community use. This project defines a new schoolyard and events space, contributing to the vitality of the school and surrounding community.
Architectural Design
The new buildings feature facades adorned with light-colored clinker bricks, maintaining visual harmony with the existing complex. Notably, the absence of headers in the parapets creates a perforated grid, promoting natural ventilation. The interplay of light and shadow, facilitated by strategically placed headers, adds visual interest to the structures.
Internal Layout
Central to both buildings is an internal hall – the “school hall” and “sports hall” respectively. These spacious halls, characterized by large, colored infill areas, serve as versatile spaces for various activities. Additionally, they facilitate cross-ventilation throughout the rooms, eliminating the need for mechanical ventilation systems.
Integration and Accessibility
The sports hall, intricately integrated into the sports complex on multiple levels, offers convenient access to outdoor sports facilities. Its upper gallery provides spectators with an elevated vantage point to observe matches played on the lower level. Meanwhile, the school building’s two-storey hall serves as a central space for school activities and events.
Versatility and Community Engagement
With a fire safety concept in place, the entire internal space of the school hall can be utilized for teaching or hosting events, further enhancing its versatility. This approach ensures that the complex serves not only educational purposes but also becomes an integral part of village life, fostering community engagement and cohesion.
Conclusion
The Weissenstein New School Building and Double Sports Hall project exemplifies thoughtful design and integration, seamlessly blending functionality with aesthetics. By prioritizing natural ventilation, creating versatile internal spaces, and promoting community engagement, the project not only meets the educational needs of the school but also enriches the broader community fabric.
