By The Kusugibashi Bridge, located in Osogoe, Shuto Town, Iwakuni City, stands as a testament to resilience and community spirit following its destruction during the Western Japan Flood in July 2018. Designed by Kengo Kuma & Associates, this wooden bridge not only serves as a vital infrastructure link but also emerges as a new symbol for the local community.

Supported by donations from the Asahi-Shuzo brewery, renowned for its production of the iconic Japanese sake brand “Dassai,” the bridge serves as a poignant reminder of collective strength and solidarity.

While reinforced concrete (RC) frames provide structural stability, the use of 105-square cypress balustrades pays homage to Japan’s rich wooden construction heritage.
