Bajaj Auto, under the leadership of Managing Director Rajiv Bajaj, has disclosed plans to introduce a range of environmentally friendly Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) motorcycles, with the first model set to hit the roads by June. This initiative was announced alongside Bajaj Group’s pledge of Rs 5,000 crore towards Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) expenditures over the next five years.
Introduction of CNG Bikes
The forthcoming CNG motorcycle aims to cater to consumers prioritizing fuel efficiency. It is slated to debut under a distinct brand and is anticipated to come with a higher price tag compared to conventional petrol variants. The pricing difference is attributed to increased manufacturing costs and the incorporation of a specialized tank enabling the use of both petrol and CNG fuels for enhanced customer convenience.
Bajaj Group’s CSR Commitment
Additionally, Bajaj Group revealed its commitment of Rs 5,000 crore towards social impact initiatives over the next five years, focusing on skill development under ‘Bajaj Beyond,’ the conglomerate’s new identity for all CSR and charitable activities. This initiative aims to empower over two crore young individuals, equipping them with the skills necessary to seize employment and entrepreneurial opportunities in India’s evolving economy.
Continuing Philanthropic Efforts
The Bajaj family’s legacy of social responsibility is exemplified through various institutions such as the Jamnalal Bajaj Foundation, Jankidevi Bajaj Gram Vikas Sanstha, and the Kamalnayan Bajaj Hospital. Over the past decade, the Bajaj Group has contributed nearly Rs 4,000 crore towards CSR endeavors, primarily focused on education, healthcare, livelihood, water conservation, and community development initiatives.
Skilling Initiatives
Furthermore, Bajaj Auto Chairman Niraj Bajaj highlighted the importance of practical skill development through initiatives like the Bajaj Engineering Skills Training (BEST) program. Such endeavors bridge the gap between theoretical education and industry-specific skills required in the manufacturing sector. With ‘Bajaj Beyond,’ the group aims to expand its skilling initiatives across various sectors.
Skilling Efforts by Bajaj Finserv
Sanjiv Bajaj, Chairman & Managing Director of Bajaj Finserv, emphasized the positive impact of skilling initiatives, particularly the Certificate Programme in Banking, Finance, and Insurance (CPBFI), which prepares youth for careers in the financial services sector. Bajaj Finserv’s commitment under ‘Bajaj Beyond’ extends to fortifying India’s skilling ecosystem, especially in rural areas, thereby facilitating greater access to economic prosperity.
